Swiss Chard Gratin Recipe

 

Ingredients

 

Serve 4

  • 2 lb/1 kg Swiss chard, tough stalks removed

  • 1 cup/250 ml Béchamel Sauce (refer recipe)

  • 4 tbsp freshly grated firm cheese


Method:

  1. Cook the chard in salted, boiling water for 10 minutes.

  2. Use a slotted spoon to remove the chard. Peel the stalks, removing the tough fibers and chop coarsely.

  3. Return to the water and boil for 15-20 minutes more, or until softened. Drain well.

  4. Preheat the oven to 400°F/200°C/gas 6. Finely chop the Swiss chard greens.

  5. Add the stalks and arrange in an ovenproof dish. Pour the Béchamel sauce over the top and sprinkle with the cheese.

  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is nicely browned. Serve hot.
