Baked Eggs with Fontina Recipe

 

Ingredients

 

Serve 4

  • 5 eggs

  • 6 thin slices whole-wheat/whole meal bread

  • 4 tbsp milk

  • 8 oz/250 g Fontina cheese, thinly sliced

  • 2 tbsp butter, cut into flakes

  • 6 eggs


Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F/180°C/gas 4. Butter an ovenproof baking dish.

  2. Dip the bread in the milk and arrange in the prepared baking dish. Top with half the Fontina and butter.

  3. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the bread is golden and the cheese is bubbling.

  4. Break the eggs into the dish and cover each one with the remaining slices of Fontina.

  5. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the egg white is cooked and the cheese has melted. Serve hot.
