Apple Fritters Recipe

 

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp active dry yeast

  • 1/2 cup/125 ml milk

  • 3 1/3 cups/500 g all purpose/plain flour

  • 1/8 tsp salt

  • 8 oz/250 g apples, peeled cored and coarsely chopped

  • 2 cups/500 ml oil, for frying

  • 4 tbsp granulated sugar

  • 2 cups/500 ml plain yogurt

  • 4 tbsp clear honey


Method:

  1. Mix the yeast and milk in a small bowl. Let stand for 15 minutes until foamy.

  2. Sift the flour and salt into a large bowl. Mix in the yeast mixture and apples to make a soft dough. Cover and let rise for about 90 minutes.

  3. Roll the dough out on a floured surface to 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick. Cut out 4-inch (10-cm) rounds.

  4. Heat the oil in a deep-fryer until very hot and fry in small batches for 5 minutes, or until golden brown all over.

  5. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain well on paper towels. Sprinkle with the sugar.

  6. Serve hot with the yogurt and honey in separate bowls.
