Main Dish Recipes - Mock Sauerbraten

Ingredients

  • 1 package (1/2-ounce) Ehlers Pot Roast Cooking and Gravy Mix

  • 3/4 cup water

  • 1/2 cup dry red wine

  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar

  • 1/8 tsp. ground cloves

  • 1 3- to 4-lb. pot roast

  • 4 carrots, quartered

  • 2 onions. quartered

  • 1/4-1/2 cup sour cream

  • 1/4 cup gingersnap cookie crumbs

Makes 6 servings


Method:

  1. Combine gravy mix, water, wine, vinegar and cloves in a  4-quart Dutch oven and stir to blend well. Add pot roast, cover and cook in a preheated 350F oven for 2 hours.

  2. Add carrots and onions. cover and cook 1 hour longer. Remove pot from oven and set meat aside on warm platter.

  3. Stir sour cream and gingersnap crumbs into sauce. Serve sauce separately.

Note: Leftover meat may be sliced and served cold with Horseradish Dressing.
