Turkey-Sausage Sandwiches
Ingredients
-
1 1/2 pounds bulk Italian
sausage
-
1 1/2 pounds uncooked ground
turkey
-
1 1/2 cups purchased
meatless spaghetti sauce
-
1 cup chopped onion or green
sweet pepper
-
6-ounce can tomato paste
-
1/4 teaspoon crushed red
pepper
-
12 hoagie buns, split
and toasted
-
1 cup
shredded mozzarella cheese (4 ounces)
Method:
-
In a large skillet cook half of the Italian sausage
and half of the ground
turkey until meat is brown. Drain off fat. Transfer
meat to a 3 1/2- or 4-quart slow cooker. Repeat with
remaining sausage and remaining turkey.

Stir
spaghetti sauce, onion or sweet pepper, tomato
paste, and crushed red pepper into meat in slow
cooker.

Cover and cook on low-heat setting for 6 to
8 hours or on high-heat
setting for 3 to 4 hours. Serve meat mixture on
hoagie buns. Top with mozzarella cheese.
