Pizza By the Yard
Ingredients
-
1 16-ounce loaf
un-sliced French bread
-
1 pound lean ground
beef
-
1 6-ounce can tomato
paste
-
1/4 cup water
-
1/4 cup sliced green
onions
-
1/4 cup chopped pitted
ripe olives
-
1/2 teaspoon dried
oregano, crushed
-
1/2 teaspoon salt
-
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
-
1/3 cup grated Parmesan
cheese
-
2 medium tomatoes,
sliced
-
1 medium green sweet
pepper, cut into rings
-
1 cup shredded
American cheese (4 ounces)
Method:
-
Preheat
broiler. Cut bread in half horizontally. Place bread halves, cut
sides up, on the unheated rack of a broiler pan. Broil 4 inches from
the heat about 1 minute or until lightly toasted.
-
Transfer to a very
large cookie sheet. Set aside. Set oven temperature to 350°F.
-
In a
large skillet cook ground beef until brown. Drain off fat. Stir
tomato paste, the water, green onions, olives, oregano, salt, and
black pepper into ground beef in skillet. Cook and stir over medium
heat until heated through.
-
Remove from heat; stir in Parmesan
cheese. Divide ground beef mixture between bread halves. Top with
tomato slices, sweet pepper rings, and American cheese.
-
Bake for 8
to 10 minutes or until cheese is melted. Serve immediately.
