Italian-Style Wontons
Ingredients

1/2 cup finely shredded
mozzarella cheese (2 ounces)

1/4 cup snipped fresh
basil
-
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
-
3 tablespoons
oil-packed dried tomatoes, drained and finely chopped
-
2 tablespoons finely
chopped pitted ripe olives
-
1 green onion, thinly
sliced
-
24 wonton wrappers
-
Cooking oil or
shortening for deep-fat frying
-
3/4 cup purchased
marinara sauce (optional)
Method:
-
Preheat
oven to 300°F. For filling, in a small bowl stir together mozzarella
cheese, basil, walnuts, dried tomatoes, ripe olives, and green
onion.

For each wanton, place one wanton wrapper on a flat surface
with one corner toward you. Spoon a rounded teaspoon of the filling
just below the center of the wanton wrapper. Fold the bottom point
over the filling and tuck it under the filling.

Roll the wanton
wrapper once to cover filling, leaving about 1 inch unrolled at the
top of the wrapper. Moisten the right corner with water.

Grasp right
and left comers and bring them toward you below the filling. Overlap
the left corner over the right comer. Press firmly to seal.

Pour 2
inches of oil into a heavy saucepan or deep-fat fryer; heat to 365°F.
Fry wantons, a few at a time, for 1 to 2 1/2 minutes or until
golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Keep warm in oven while frying
the remaining wantons.

If desired, serve with heated marinara sauce
for dipping.
