Indian Seafood Recipes - Prawn Curry with Yoghurt

Ingredients

  • 450 g/1lb cooked, peeled prawns (shrimp)

  • juice of 1 lemon

  • 30 ml/2 tbsp oil

  • 5ml/1 tsp black mustard seeds

  • 1.5 ml/1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 6 cloves garlic, chopped

  • 2.5 ml/1/2 tsp ground turmeric

  • 1.5 ml/1/4 tsp chili powder

  • 50 g/2 oz desiccated (shredded) coconut

  • 30 ml/2 tbsp natural (plain) yoghurt 8 salt


Method:

  1. Place the prawns in a bowl and squeeze over the lemon juice. Heat the oil and fry the mustard and fenugreek seeds until they start crackling.

  2. Add the onion and fry until golden. Add the garlic, turmeric, chili powder, coconut, yoghurt and salt and stir over a low heat for 2 minutes.

  3. Add the prawns and salt and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve hot with rice, sambar and papadums.
