Indian Seafood Recipes - Fish Shaslik

Ingredients

  • 1 dried red chilies

  • 2.5 cm/1 in ginger root

  • 4 cloves garlic, crushed

  • 450g/1lb cod or white fish fillets, cubed

  • 6 cloves

  • 6 black  peppercorns

  • 1 black cardamom pod

  • 1/2 cinnamon stick

  • 150ml/1/4 pt/2/3 cup natural (plain) yoghurt

  • salt

  • 100 g/4 oz onions, cubed

  • 45 ml/3 tbsp ghee

  • 5 ml/1 tsp garam masala


Method:

  1. Grind the chilies and ginger together. Add the garlic to a pan of water and wash the fish in the water to get rid of any fishy smell then drain. Grind together the cloves, peppercorns, cardamom and cinnamon then mix with the  fish. Mix in the yoghurt and salt 10 taste.

  2. Fix alternate cubes of fish and onion on skewers and grill (broil) under a moderate grill (broiler) until cooked through and browned, brushing occasionally with a little melted ghee.

  3. When cooked through, remove from the skewers, sprinkle with garam masala and serve hot.
