Tropical Fruit
Tropical
fruit rich in nutrition, with
people becoming more and more health conscious, tropical fruit is
a definite asset in the fresh food revolution that is
quietly changing our eating patterns.
Many
fruits can be classified as tropical, and in this
section we have included fruits such as pineapples,
bananas, mangoes, papayas, lychees and other exotic,
less well-know fruit, frown in hot climates. These
fruits are mostly soft-fleshed and delicious in mousses,
ice cream, sherbets and jelly.
Mangoes
are a favorite of many -- with good reason, as they are
one of the most delicious tropical fruits. They are sill
fairly expensive, but one taste of that sweet, juicy
flesh makes the cost worthwhile. Select those with
shiny, unblemished skins that if squeezed gently will
give slightly. They will ripen in a warm room, and keep
well if refrigerated.
Pineapples are another very popular tropical fruit which
grow straight out of the ground. They are sweet,
aromatic and acidic all at once, which makes them
delicious in salads or even as an accompaniment to pork
or ham.
The
oriental fruit lychee and its relative the rambutan are
best served whole to really appreciate their flavor.
