Chocolate Recipe-Basic Chocolate Sauces

Ingredients

  • 6 oz (170g) dark or semisweet baking chocolate

  • 1/2 cup (125ml) sugar

  • 1 1/2 cup s (625ml) water


Method:

  1. Cut chocolate into small pieces and melt in a bowl over a pan of hot water.

  2. Heat sugar and water in saucepan, stirring constantly until sugar dissolves. Boil syrup gently for 5 minutes.

  3. Carefully stir sugar syrup into chocolate. Return mixture to saucepan and , stirring continuously, bring it to a simmer. Let it simmer for 7-10 minutes or until sauce thickly coats back of a wooden spoon.

This simple, rich, smooth chocolate sauce can be served with freshly baked brioches or with puddings, fruit or ice cream.
