Meat Recipes - Steamed Beef Balls With Water Chestnuts

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (250ml) uncooked rice

  • 1 lb (450g) round steak, minced

  • 3 green onions, finely chopped

  • 1 tsp (5ml) finely chopped fresh ginger

  • 2 water chestnuts, finely chopped

  • 1 egg, lightly beaten

  • 1 tbsp (15ml) soy sauce

  • 3 tbsp (45ml) sherry

  • green vegetable leaves

  • soy sauce and chili pepper sauce, to serve


Method:

  1. Place rice in a bowl, cover with water and soak for 1-1 1/2 hours. Drain well and spread out on a tray to dry.

  2. Combine steak, green onions, ginger, water chestnuts, egg, soy sauce and sherry; mix until well blended. Form mixture into balls about 1 1/2 inch (4cm) in diameter.

  3. Roll each ball in rice until completely covered. Place balls on green vegetables in a steamer basket, leaving enough space between so they don't tough each other.

  4. Place in a steamer and steam for 30 minutes over gently boiling water. Serve with soy and chili pepper sauces for dipping.
